Design

From Bauhaus editions to Buckminster Fuller’s “Spaceship Earth,”and from Kenya Hara’s philosophy of white to the cultural history of Helvetica, our design books explore the ideas that continue to shape how design is understood and practiced.

Developed with leading designers, scholars and institutions including Bauhaus-Archiv, Berlin and Museum für Gestaltung Zürich, they span graphic, product, industrial and systems design across historical and contemporary perspectives.

Architecture

Architecture at Lars Müller Publishers spans scales, disciplines and centuries, from bacteria to buildings, from landscapes to territories, from modernist legacies to future urban imaginaries. Through monographs, essays, research projects, and case studies, our publications explore architecture as a cultural, social, political and environmental practice, as well as a core design discipline.

Alongside contemporary perspectives, the program is dedicated to documenting the figures, movements and ideas that have defined architectural history and continue to influence the discipline today.

Art and Photography

The highly distinctive publications on contemporary art are shaped by the personal preferences and friendships of the publisher. Painting and drawing, photography, video, installation and new media are of interest as independent disciplines, as is art in combination with architecture, the environment and society.

A meticulous and attentive treatment of the photographic image is a primary concern of Lars Müller Publishers in all areas of its program. The medium of photography is in addition dealt with as an independent discipline, with publications focusing on specific artists as well as photo-journalism. The criteria are authorship and artistic independence.

Society

An interest in culture and keen attention paid to the design of objects and the environment are privileges and an expression of social and material security. Lars Müller Publishers highlights the overarching topics and issues in our society; we seek to express these in the most effective way possible in words and images.
