Profile

Lars Müller Publishers is an independent publishing house based in Zurich specializing in architecture, design, art and photography books, as well as titles that confront urgent social questions. Founded in 1983 by designer Lars Müller, the program has developed as a "school of seeing" – making space for the principles and provocations that change how we look at the world around us – with the conviction that a book is itself a work of design.

Our publishing cuts across disciplines and currents, from the Swiss International Style to Japanese design rigor, from Latin American architecture to American visionary thinking, from the questions contemporary artists raise about our time to books on human rights, the environment, protest and mobility – our publishing has always been drawn to ideas that matter and indifferent to those that come and go.

In 2025, Lars Müller Publishers entered a new chapter in partnership with the Eames Institute of Infinite Curiosity in San Francisco, joining a growing circle of organisations that also includes longstanding supporter William Stout Architectural Books. While remaining editorially independent and based in Zurich, the partnership opens new opportunities for collaboration and public engagement with our program. As part of this transition, Jonas Voegeli and Kerstin Landis joined the publishing house to help lead our future development while building on our distinctive publishing and design culture.

Lars Müller Publishers is a member of SWIPS Swiss Independent Publishers and of the MOTOVUN Group of International Publishers.

Lars Müller Publishers is supported by the Swiss Federal Office for Culture with a structural contribution for the years 2021-2024.
