Lars’ favorites – this is the place where Lars shares his personal highlights, be it a secret hideaway, the best snack bar in town or a catchy tune. This time it’s the bookstore Idiom in Fort Kochi, India.
Sixteen years ago – at the time I was researching for the famed little Helvetica – Homage to a Typeface – I discovered a small bookstore in Fort Kochi in Kerala, India. Their then handmade shopping bag with great Helvetica print is featured in the recent edition of our book Helvetica forever.
I recently revisited the store at Bastian Street and surprised the shop manager, Tushara, with the story and a copy of the book. Idiom is still independently run and deserves your visit and support.
Kochi is currently hosting the Kochi Art Biennale – until March 29. If you get tired of the sometimes bothersome tuk-tuk drivers, you may chill out at the Kashi Art Café (Burgar Street), westerners favorite hang out, or discover one of the surprisingly good fish restaurants.
